I'm so lucky to have stayed with Mr and Mrs Turner in their amazing home in Takadonababa. My thoughts are below:- the location is 3 minutes from the Yamanote station and seconds away from the metro line. It is so convenient to get anywhere in Tokyo from here. The area is by a university and is full of coffee shops, ramen shops and convenience stores. - the ryokan is actually a home and is kept in wonderful condition. It is super clean and the rooms and facilities are highest quality. My tatami room was very comfortable with a TV, air con and a conveniently located fridge and wi-fi.
- my hosts encouraged me to use a local sento (Japanese bathhouse) which I did on my last evening before my flight to the US. It was very relaxing and a great authentic experience- the trains shut down from 1-5 am so if you are out late, you can either stay out late until 5 am or take a taxi back home (my taxi back from Shibuya to Takadonobaba which was a 15 minute ride at 3 am cost $42 - yikes)I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Japan.
