Means for the Feelings About Life scales are presented in Table3. Cronbach’s alphas for each scale were as follows(age 52 alpha reported first, age 62 alpha reported second, correlations between Time 1 and Time 2 scores reported third): identity certainty, confident power, concerns about aging, and generativity. (Note that due to a clerical error, concern about aging was assessed with only seven items. The “knowing there are things I’ll never do” item was inadvertently left off of both surveys.) The Big5 personality factors were assessed in 1995 and 2005 using a 44-item scale developed by John and colleagues (see Benet-Martinez & John,1998,for the complete scale in English and Spanish).
