Dad was an army scout for the 32nd Infantry, from 1944-1946. He was a sharpshooter who fought in the Southern Philippines--in Ryukyus, Leyte, and Okinawa. He also played clarinet and saxophone in the Seventh Infantry Division Band—and that band played special service shows, as well as for the ceremony in which the Japanese surrendered Okinawa

父は1944～1946年、第32歩兵隊の人材発掘係でした。彼は、フィリピン南部、琉球、レイテ、沖縄で戦った一級射手でした。また彼は、第7歩兵師団のバンドで、クラリネットとサックスも演奏していました。そしてそのバンドが、日本が沖縄を明け渡した為の式典とも言える、スペシャルサービスショーを開いたのです。
