陸前高田剣道連盟会長新沼薫先生と会ったのはまだテント生活を余儀なくされている時だった。36世帯98人が暮らしていた。あれから１０ヶ月現在は仮設住宅に住んでいる。「千葉周作剣道大会」が開催されていた体育館は大勢の人が避難していた。そこに津波が襲い約１６メートルある天井まで海水が到達し大勢がなくなった。陸前高田市では５人の剣道家が命を亡くしている。先生が指差す先には大会本部があった

I met the president of the Rikuzentakata Kendo Federation, Mr Niinuma Kaoru, when he was still being forced in stay in a tent. 36 families, or 98 people, were living together. 10 months later, they are now living in temporary housing. In the gymnasium where the Chiba Shusuke Kendo Tournament was held, a large number of people had seeked refuge. Many of them were lost when the gymnasium was assaulted by a 16-meter high tsunami that reached the ceiling. Rikuzentaka lost 5 kendo practitioners. At the place Mr Niinuma is pointing was the photo of the last tournament that was in the headquarters. This is the place where the headquarters had been. There is just a large hole where it used to be. Mr Niinuma's house was swept away too.

When I first met Mr. Kaoru Nimuma, the president of Rikuzentakada Kendo Federation, people were still forced to live in tents. After ten months since then, people currently live in temporary housing. At the gymnasium, where "Shusaku Chiba Kendo Tournament" was held, there were a lot of people who had been evacuated. Many lost their lives there because tsunami rushed into the building and seawater reached the 16-foot ceiling. Five Kendo master lost their lives in Rikuzentakada. Mr. Nimura pointed at an empty lot where the conventions headquarter used to be.
