Check-In to China’s Pinterest For Foodies
Amid the glut of Pinterest clones in China, there are some interesting such social pinboard sites that are highly specialist – such as MeiShiXing.
As its Chinese name implies, it focuses totally on food, allowing users to photograph, describe, check-in to restaurants and cafés, and share their culinary experiences. Curiously, the startup behind MeiShiXing launched it with apps for iOS and Android (pictured below) a few months ago, but the website that you see above launched only this past weekend. The new website gives a nice overview of the now considerable collection of entries, but most of the action at the users’ end is still going on in the mobile apps.

今、中国はPinterest系クローンサイトで溢れている。その中にかなり専門的で興味深いソーシャルピンボードサイトがある。その１つがMeishiXing（美食行）だ。
中国名が意味する通り、同サイトは完全に「食べ物」だけに特化している。利用者は写真を撮って掲載したり、食べ物を描写したり、レストランやカフェへのチェックインや料理の感想を共有することができる。面白いのは、MeiShiXingを開発したスタートアップは、数か月前にiOSやAndroid向け（写真下）アプリを同時にローンチしているが、上に掲載しているウェブサイトは先週末にローンチしたばかりだ。この新しいウェブサイトでは、今では数多く集まった投稿の素晴らしい全体像が見ることができるが、ユーザーの活動のほとんどはモバイルアプリを利用して行なわれる。
The web app seems more like a good way to browse things, with the ubiquitous option to share items of interest to Weibo, Renren, etc. Rather than a ‘like’ button, there’s a more apt ‘I wanna eat’ icon to hit.
com is a blend, then, of social pinboard, SNS, and location-based service (LBS), thereby making it something of a competitor to check-in service, Jiepang. It’s equipped for six major Chinese cities at the moment, so its rollout is certainly nowhere near nationwide – but the LBS element will inevitably require more care and data to be applied so that venues are already listed.
このウェブアプリは閲覧に向いており、お気に入りアイテムをWeibo、Renrenなどとシェアすることができる広範なオプションが設けられている。「like - いいね」ボタンではなく、よりこのアプリに見合った「食べてみたい」アイコンを押すことができる。
MeiShiXing.comは、ソーシャルピンボード、ソーシャルネットワーキングサービス、そして位置情報サービス（LBS）が組み合わさったもので、チェックイン・サービスのJiepangに競合するようなアプリとなっている。現時点では、中国の主要6都市を対象にしたもので、世界的な運営と言うには程遠いが、LBS要素を考えると当然のことながら、ロケーションをあらかじめ記録しておくために、更なるケアとデータの入手、そしてそれらを適用していくことが必要となるだろう。
At the moment, there’s no clear way for the site to monetize, but restaurant and other merchant tie-ups seem like the best way forward. In contrast, fashion-oriented Pinterest clones, such as Renren’s (NYSE:RENN), can bring in cash more immediately by driving traffic to e-commerce sites such as Alibaba’s Taobao.
Currently, MeiShiXing is invite-only, indicating that it’s not wanting to rush the opening-up process. If you have an invite code, new users can sign in with either their Sina or Tencent Weibo accounts.
今のところ、同サイトにはサービスを収益化する明確な手段はないが、レストランや他の企業とタイアップすることが前進する最善の方法のようだ。それに対し、Renren（ニューヨーク証券取引所：RENN）などが行なっているファッション向けのPinterest系クローンサイトは、Alibaba（阿里巴巴）のTaobao（淘宝）などのeコマースサイトにトラフィックを誘導することで、より迅速に収益を上げることができる。
現在、MeiShiXingは招待制のみで運営されており、広く一般に公開することには焦りを感じていないことが分かる。招待コードをもっていれば、新規ユーザーはSina（新浪）、Tencent（騰訊）いずれかのWeiboアカウントでサインインすることができる。
