Remember that the will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. Everyone wants to win, but not everyone wants to prepare to win. Preparing to win is where the determination that you will win is made. Once the game, or test, or project is underway, it is too late to prepare to win. The actual game, test, or project is the end of a long process of getting ready, in which the outcome was determined in the preparation stage. So if you want to win, you must prepare to win.

勝とうとする意志は、勝つことに備えようとする意志ほど重要ではないことを覚えておく。全ての人は勝つ事を望むが、全ての人が勝つための準備をする事を望んでいない。勝つための準備をする事は、あなたの勝利を成立させる事の決意である。ゲーム、もしくはテスト、もしくはプロジェクトが進行してしまえば、勝つための準備をするには遅すぎる。実際のゲーム、テスト、もしくはプロジェクトは、準備している事の長い行程の最終段階であり、その成果は準備段階に置いて決定されていた。なので、勝ちたければ、勝つための準備をするべきだ。

忘れてならないこと、それは勝とうという意志は勝つための準備をしようとする意志ほど重要ではないということだ。誰もがみんな勝ちたがるが、みんながみんな勝つための準備をしたいと思っているわけではない。勝つための準備は、自分は勝つのだ、という決意を固めることだ。試合、試験あるいはプロジェクトが一旦始まれば、それから準備を始めても手遅れである。その進行中の試合、試験あるいはプロジェクトは、長い準備期間の最終過程であり、結果は準備段階ですでに決まっていたのだ。まさに勝ちたければ勝てる準備をしろということだ。
