私は上海に初めて訪れたのですが、ホテルまでの移動の間に見られる風景の代わりように驚きました。空港は電気も薄暗く、周りの建物も開発途上のどこか寂しい印象を受けましたが、市内に入ると高層ビルが重厚感のある西洋風の建物が並び、中国の近年の発展の様子を感じることができました。その後の市内観光でも、多国籍にわたる人が行き来し、とても活気に溢れていました。

I visited Shanghai for the first time and was surprised when I was travelling to the hotel how the view keeps changing. The airport has dim lights which made me feel somewhat sad but when I approached the city, streets are filled with stately Western buildings which indicate the recent development in China. When sightseeing later on I saw people of many nationalities walking by, which made the town lively.
