Realistic goals
Sit down with your employee and find out exactly what she feels she can accomplish in the next year. (Often employees will feel that they can achieve more than you would ask them to.) Let her set her sights high, but don't let her set unrealistic goals. Once you have come up with these measurable goals, write them down, and both you and the employee sign the list. It should be binding-unless at a later time you both agree that new circumstances have altered either side's ability to live by the agreement.

社員と一緒に座って翌年達成できることについて彼女がどのように感じるかを正確に見つけ出しましょう。（社員はしばしばあなたが彼らに頼んだことよりも多くを達成できると感じるようです。）彼女に高い目標を持たせなさい、しかし非現実的な目標を持たせてはなりません。こうした適度のゴールを一旦見い出したら、それを書き出して、あなたと社員の両方がリストにサインしなさい。後に新しい環境によって2人のうちどちらかがそれに同意しなくなったということに両方が同意しない限り、それは拘束力を持つでしょう。
