4 Hire very smart people. 'High IQ people' is a Microsoft term for the very brightest people. From the start, Gates always insisted that the company required the very best minds. He did not suffer technological fools gladly. In some quarters this was seen as elitist and provoked criticism. But it had a number of positive effects. It enabled the company to recruit many brilliant students straight from college who were attracted by the prospect of working with the very best in their fields.
