More Thoughts on Innovation in Asia, This Time From Serkan Toto
After Charlie’s piece yesterday on innovation and what’s really cool in tech start-ups, I thought it would be fitting to point out Serkan Toto’s presentation on innovation in Asia, just in case some of you might have missed it.

昨日の Charlie の革新に対する見解とスタートアップで何が実際にクールなのかと言うことを聞いた後、万が一聞き逃した人がいれば、Serkan Toto のアジアでの革新に触れたプレゼンテーションについて述べておくのも良案ではないか、と私は考えた。
For those of you who read this blog, you’ll already know Serkan as an authority on technology in Japan and Asia, as we’ve cited his articles more than a few times. In his presentation Serkan sheds some common misconceptions about the practice of cloning in Asia, and he mentions a number Asian companies who have pioneered the tech and mobile spaces. As early examples he points to Japan’s NTT Docomo with its i-mode service, and Korea’s Cyworld which brought virtual goods to social networks.
このブログを呼んでくれている人達、当ブログ上でも彼についての記事は何度も取り上げているので、あたた達はもう既に Serkan が日本とアジアにおけるテクノロジー界の権威者であることをご存知であろう。彼は自身のプレゼンテーション内で、アジアのクローニングの習慣に対する一般的ないくつかの誤解を排除した。そして彼は、テクノロジーとモバイル分野で第一人者となったアジアの企業を数社取り上げた。彼は初期の例として、日本の NTT Docomo の i-mode サービスを取り上げ、またソーシャルネットワーク界にバーチャルグッズを取り込んだ韓国の Cyworld も取り上げた。
But he also mentions challenges that the internet faces in the region, ranging from a lack of good VC firms and angel investors to poor internet penetration. (I think I saw our blog noted in there somewhere, so its good to see he reads us too!)
