Echelon TOP100: MyRealTrip and Flitto win at Korea Qualifier
Platform connecting travellers with local guides, MyRealTrip, bagged the Judges’ Choice award, while Flitto walked away with People’s Choice
Jess Erickson, Director of Community at 500 Startups wrote in a blog post that there are unique opportunities in the world that Korea will be able to see before many other markets, and that Korean entrepreneurs will have the first crack at solving what will likely become global opportunities.

500 Startupsのコミュニティ部門ディレクターの Jess Erickson氏はブログで、世界中のユニークな市場機会の中には、多くの市場に先駆けて韓国で見えるものがあり、グローバルな市場機会になっていくであろう機会に対して韓国のアントレプレナーが最初に解決するチャンスがある。
The startup ecosystem in Korea is burgeoning and Seoul is poised to become the hub of tech startup activity in Asia in the next three to five years. The government is promoting entrepreneurship and no country in the world has more backing per capita from the government than Korea. According to a Wall Street Journal report, in the next two years, the government will put US$3.7 billion into startups in the form of grants and other initiatives.
韓国におけるスタートアップのエコシステムは急成長しており、次の3～5年間でソウルがアジアのテクノロジー系スタートアップの活動の中心地になる素地ができている。政府は企業を奨励しており、1人あたりの政府支援金は韓国が世界最高である。Wall Street Journalのレポートによれば、政府は、次の2年間に助成金及びその他のイニシアティブの形式で、政府は37億米ドルをスタートアップに投入する予定である。
To tap this emerging market, e27 held its Echelon Top 100 Qualifier in Seoul, to identify the exciting technology startups from Korea. This initiative will give an opportunity to Korean startups to be one of the Top 100 startups exhibiting at Echelon Asia Summit on June 23 – 24, 2015 in Singapore.
このエマージングマーケットの動向を探るため、e27はEchelon トップ100社の予選をソウルで主催し、韓国発のテクノロジースタートアップで勢いのある会社を発掘することにした。このイニシアチブは、韓国のスタートアップ企業にEchelon Asia Summitに出展するトップ100社の1社になるチャンスをもたらすものだ。Echelon Asia Summitは2015年6月23日～6月24日にシンガポールで開催される。
MyRealTrip, a platform connecting travellers with local guides or destination experts, walked away with the Judges’ Choice award and Flitto, a crowd-sourced translation platform providing accurate and low cost translations for voice, text and image through mobile phones took home the People’s Choice Award at the Qualifier.
There were four startups pitching in total including Pi, a smart IoT product that checks freshness and nutrition of food by sensors and delivers the information to a user’s mobile app in real-time, and Swizzle which helps users take clips from online videos and put them together into a fun, interactive system.
MyRealTripは旅行者と地元ガイドや観光ガイドをつなげるプラットフォームで審査員賞を受賞した。Flittoはクラウドソーシングの翻訳プラットフォームで、People’s Choice Awardを受賞した。Flittoは携帯電話を通じ音声・テキスト・イメージに対して正確かつ低コストの翻訳サービスを提供する。
予選には全部で4社のスタートアップがプレゼンテーションを行い、次の2社を含む。PiはスマートIoT製品を提供しており、食品の鮮度と成分をセンサーで確認し、情報をリアルタイムでモバイルアプリに提供する。
Swizzleはオンラインビデオからクリップをとり、楽しいインタラクティブなシステムに纏める。
“Every company that went to the Korea finals is well-known and doing business very well. And we only have a plan for launching global service, but other teams already had the product. Definitely it was very hard situation for me and the team, so I was very excited when we got the ticket for the event,” said Donggun Le, CEO and Founder at MyRealTrip.
The judges included Siwan Kim, Senior Investment Manager, Banks Foundation for Young Entrepreneurs; Shina Chung, Partner, K Cube Ventures; and Jung Hee Ryu, Partner and CEO at FuturePlay Inc.

明らかに私やチームにとっては困難な状況だったので、このイベントのチケットを手に入れたときは非常に興奮しました。」とMyRealTripのCEOであり創始者のDonggun Le氏。
審査員にはBanks Foundation for Young Entrepreneursのシニア投資マネージャーSiwam Kim氏、K Cube VenturesのパートナーShina Chung氏、FuturePlay Inc.のパートナー兼CEOのJung Hee Ryu氏。
Chung said, “Myrealtrip is a two-sided platform for tour services. It curates courses provided by local guides/experts of each city so that users can take diverse specific courses different from general travel agencies. After three years of operation, MyRealTrip has been scaling up and currently has 910 courses over more than 10 cities. Through the years, MyRealTrips has built its own content, local guide network, which is a big barrier against other similar services. The service is now not only for Korean users, but ready for global users. I think e27 will boost up the journey of MyRealTrip as a real global travel service.”
Chung氏は、「Myrealtripはトラベルサービス向けの2面性を有するプラットフォームです。各都市のローカルガイド･エキスパートの案内するコースがまとめられており、ユーザが一般のトラベルエージェンシーから得る情報とは違った、一つのコースについて多様なオプションから選択することができます。MyRealTripは実用化されて3年になりスケールアップしてきており、現在は10都市以上910コースを有しています。その間特有のコンテンツ、他の類似サービスでは見られないローカルガイドとのネットワークも築いてきました。今ではこのサービスは韓国のユーザだけでなく、グローバルユーザに対しての準備が整っています。私は、e27がMyRealTripの真にグローバルなトラベルサービスになる迄の道程に於いての強力な後押しとなってくれると思います。」と語った。
Experts also summarised that Korea presents a huge market for investors and founders in the mobile space as more than 80 percent of the country has smartphones.
Ryu said, “One of the big trends in the Korean startup ecosystem is O2O (Online-to-Offline). MyRealTrip seamlessly combines online travelling service with offline guides’ experiences, and also shows nice market performances. Hence, we chose this company for the Judges’ Choice award as an iconic startup from Korea going global.”

On improving the quality of startups he advised, “Though the participants might not be the top-tier players in Korea, but they truly have a strong will to go global, so I believe we can help them to improve to a higher level based on their experiences in Korea and the other countries by advising on the strategies about scalability and monetisation.”
