After the opening of Japan in the lastdays of the Tokugawa shogunate, the western styele architectectures were started to built. Mainly, they were built by foreign architects who visited Japan at that time.

Then, Japanese carpenters, inspired by the architectural styele which they saw for the first time, began to construct Seiyokan in various region.

Later, Japanese architects who received quality architectonics by British architect, Conder, started to construct full-scale western buildings, Seiyokan.
