日本では各地に天然の温泉があり、露天風呂を楽しむ観光客も多い。また山間では野生動物も利用することがあり、けがの治療や暖を取る効果を本能で察知して利用すると言われている。
そんな温泉を楽しむサルで有名なスポットが、長野県の地獄谷野猿公苑。ここは1964年開苑以来、サルを至近距離で見ることができて、最近では動画などでも温泉に入るサルとして、広く人々に知られている。
