放射線の照射は、放射線治療技師が行ないます。放射線治療技師は放射線腫瘍医によって決定された治療方針に従って、病気の部分だけ確実に放射線を照射します。外照射は直線加速器（リニアック）の設置されている放射線治療室で行ないます。治療計画でつけた皮膚や固定具のしるしに合わせて照射します。１回目の照射では、皮膚や固定具のしるしに合わせた照射野と治療計画の照射野が一致しているかを確認するため位置あわせという撮影をします。
A radiation therapy technician delivers radiation. The radiation therapy technician follows courses of treatment on which a radiation oncologist decides, and accurately sends radiation toward only the parts which is ill. External radiation is treated in a radiation treatment room where a linear accelerator is set. The radiation therapy technician sends radiation toward skins which are marked by the courses of treatment and signs of fixing tools. In the first radiation, the patients are taken photos called adjusting positions to confirm whether the parts, which are decided by the courses of treatment can match the parts of skins and the signs of fixing tools.
このため１回目の照射では少し時間がかかります。２回目以降は放射線治療室に入っている時間は10～15分ですが、そのうち実際に放射線が出ている時間は１～２分です。なお、放射線治療は痛くもかゆくもありません。治療装置が音を出したり動くこともありますが、患者さんに触れることはありません。放射線治療中は治療台の上で動かないようにしてください。
