背中には後光を表す板光背（いたこうはい）には唐草文様などが極彩色で描かれています。
また、水の流れの様に軽やかな衣の衣紋は漣波式（れんばしき）と呼ばれる室生寺独特の模様とされています。
十一面観音さま
金堂、もう一つの国宝がこちらの十一面観音さま。
この十一面観音さまの衣も流れるような漣波式（れんばしき）。
室生寺を代表する仏様です。
衆生をもれなく救うため、十一面観音様の頭には１０の顔。
