ヤマハが開発した歌声合成技術および、その応用ソフトウェアです。 音符と歌詞を入力するだけで歌声に変換することができます。 つまり、歌手を呼ばなくても歌声を作り出すことができます。 歌声の合成には、歌声ライブラリという、実際の歌手の声から取り出した歌声の断片を用います。 この歌声ライブラリを変えることで「初音ミク」「がくっぽいど」※等のさまざまな歌声を作り出すことができます。

▼What is VOCALOID?
A set of technologies developed by Yamaha for music synthesis; also, its associated software. The technology allows for the vocalisation of inputted musical notation and lyrics, allowing users to create voice tracks without having to resort to finding a singer. A library of recorded samples from actual singers is included, allowing users to create synthesised voices; examples include "Hatsune Miku" and "Gackpoid".
