国際オリンピック委員会(IOC)の125次総会で、2020年に開催される第32回夏季夏季オリンピックと第16回パラリンピック開催都市の投票が行なわれ、東京が開催地に選ばれた。
東京都が今年1月に提出した立候補ファイルによると、東京ビッグサイトはレスリング、フェンシング、テコンドーの会場として利用されるほか、14万3000平米の国際放送センターとメインプレスセンターとして使用される予定。そのうち延床面積4万4000平米は3層建てで増築する予定で、工費は144億円と計上されている。
