「くるくる鍋」は、鍋の側面に斜めの溝を付けただけのシンプルな鍋だ。加熱時に水温が上がると水が溝に沿って上昇し、鍋の中にかなり強い洗濯機のような渦が発生する。鍋の中身がくるくる回ったら面白いのではないか？という思いつきで試作品をYoutubeに投稿したところ、再生回数74万回を越える思った以上の反響があり製品化を試みた。

“kuru-kuru pot” is a simple pot that has angled grooves on the side of the pot. When the water temperature rises, water comes up along with the grooves and the pot creates strong swirl like washing machine. It could be fun if the ingredients circle around in the pot. The test pot was posted on Youtube. It’s got more feedback than expected and was reviewed more than 740,000 times. Commercialization of the product was attempted.

The "Spinning Pot" is simply a pot with diagonal gutters along the side of the pot. When it is heated and the water temperature rises, the water is drawn up along the gutters, creating a whirlpool inside the pot like in a washing machine. When a video of the prototype was posted on Youtube in the hopes that viewers would find the swirling pot interesting, it gained over 740,000 views, vastly exceeding expectations and spurring the designers to try to produce a marketable product.

問題は、鍋の実用性が定かではないことだ。何の役に立つのか？どんな料理に使えるのか？料理をつくったことのない30～40代の男性のアイディアだから仕方ないかもしれない。プロジェクトで集めた費用は、くるくる鍋の初期ロット最小1,000個以上の製作費用に充てられる予定だった。実際の試作、量産を行うのは新潟県の「東陽理化学研究所」開発部。スティーブ・ジョブズがi-Padの制作依頼にわざわざ来日訪問したほど技術力のある会社だという。

The problem was the unclear practicality of the pot. Is it useful? What kind of food do I cook with this pot? It cannot be blamed because this is an idea of 30-40 years old man who never cooked. The funds collected through the project were supposed to be used for its initial production cost for minimum of 1000 pots. Product Development department of “Toyo Rikagaku Kenkyusho Co., Ltd” in Niigata was selected to create the test products and go on the production. This company has reputable technology ability. Even Steve Jobs visited to request i-Pad production.

The problem is, the practicality of the pot remains uncertain. How is it useful? What kind of foods can it be used to make? As the brainchild of men in their 30s and 40s who have never cooked themselves, this may be an unavoidable pitfall. The funds raised through the project were earmarked for the production costs of an initial lot of, at minimum, 1000 pots. Trial manufacture and mass production were to take place in the development department of the Touyou Physics and Chemistry Research Center in Niigata Prefecture. The company is so renowned for its technology that Steve Jobs came all the way to Japan to place an order for iPad production.

面白い！とYoutubeでは話題になったものの、Campfireでは311,000円しか集まらずプロジェクトは成立することなく終わった。クラウドファンディングを利用することで、そもそも鍋の実用に関するアイディアが集まれば良かったのだが…。残念ながらクラウドファンディングの利用者に主婦は少ないようだ。

Although it became a topic on Youtube, the project was unsuccessful because there was only JPY311,000 collected in Campfire. It could turn out better if more practical ideas were gathered through crowd-funding. Unfortunately, it seems that only a few housewives are using crowd-funding.

Although the pot became a talking point of interest on Youtube, the Campfire campaign failed to raise the target ¥311,000 and the project went unrealized. It might have been better to use crowdfunding to collect input on the pot's practical uses.... Unfortunately, few of the people who use crowdfunding seem to be housewives.
