Sejarah Tahun Baru Masehi
Tahun Baru pertama kali dirayakan pada tanggal 1 Januari 45 SM. Tidak lama setelah Julius Caesar dinobatkan sebagai kaisar Roma, ia memutuskan untuk mengganti penanggalan tradisional Romawi yang telah diciptakan sejak abad ketujuh SM. Dalam mendesain kalender baru ini, Julius Caesar dibantu oleh Sosigenes, seorang ahli astronomi dari Iskandariyah, yang menyarankan agar penanggalan baru itu dibuat dengan mengikuti revolusi matahari, sebagaimana yang dilakukan orang-orang Mesir.
Satu tahun dalam penanggalan baru itu dihitung sebanyak 365 seperempat hari dan Caesar menambahkan 67 hari pada tahun 45 SM sehingga tahun 46 SM dimulai pada 1 Januari.

History of New Year
New Year was first celebrated on January 1st, 45 BC. Not long after Julius Caesar was crowned as Roman Emperor, he decided to changed Roman traditional calendar which was created since seventh century BC. In designing the new calendar, Julius Caesar was helped by Sosigenes, an astronomic expert from Alexandria who suggested the new calendar uses the sun revolution, as the Egyptians used it.
One year in this new calendar is 365.25 day and Cesar added 67 days to the year 45 BC, hence the year 46 BC started on January 1st.
