После этих выборов, по мысли оппозиционеров, новые власти Украины немедленно подпишут соглашение об ассоциации с ЕС. Решение нынешних властей отложить подписание на неопределенный срок стало поводом к массовым акциям протеста.
Однако для того, чтобы отправить правительство в отставку, у украинской оппозиции в парламенте недостаточно голосов. По словам Арсения Яценюка, под требованием об отставке подписались 160 депутатов. В Верховной Раде сейчас 441 депутат, у правящей Партии регионов - более 200 голосов.
Оппозиционеры надеются на голоса коммунистов, независимых депутатов и "перебежчиков" из ПР, разочаровавшихся в президенте Януковиче и его правительстве.

Некоторые политики в понедельник предположили, что в случае отказа большинства в Верховной Раде отправить правительство в отставку протестующие на Майдане захватят парламент.
