We live in a world in which isolation is no longer possible. We live in a time of unprecedented mobility of peoples and intermingling of cultures. We are all interdependent and share an inescapable responsibility for the wellbeing of the entire world.

We face a crisis which could bring about the suicide of the human
species or bring us a new awakening and a new hope. We believe that peace
is possible. We know that religion is not the sole remedy for all the ills of
humanity, but it has an indispensable role to play in this most critical time.

For others it represents the highest aspirations of human existence.
In still others, religions are institutions that claim to carry a message of
salvation.

私たちは一人ではいられない世界に生きている。これまでにないほど人が動き、文化が融合する時代に生きている。私たちは皆、お互いに依存しており、世界全体の繁栄に対して避けることのできない責任を共有している。

私たちは、人を自殺に追いやるか、目の覚めるような新しい希望を与えてくれる危機に直面している。私たちは平和が実現可能であると信じている。 宗教は人間のあらゆる病的なものの唯一の治療法ではないことは分かっているが、この、最も危機的な時代に欠かすことのできない役割を果たすことを知っている。

ある人にとっては、宗教は人間存在の最も至高な希望を現している。
他の人にとっては、宗教は救済のメッセージを伝えられる制度である。

我々は、孤立しようのない世界に生きている。民族と文化がかつてないほど混在している流動的な時の中で生きているのだ。我々全ては、お互いに依存しあい、世界の平和のために欠かすことのできない責任を共有している。

我々は人類の破滅と覚醒と希望に直面しているのだ。
我々は世界平和を信じている。信仰だけが人類のあらゆる病の処方箋であるわけではないが、この最も危機的状況の中では欠かすことのできない役割を担っている。
自分ではない誰かのためにということは、人間の存在意義の中で最も崇高な豊富である。
