The main pleasures of "The Raid 2" come from watching Evans take time setting up and knocking down his George R.R. Martin-worthy inventory of characters. Yes, every now and then the movie will grapple with this theme, as when Florence is disturbed to see a more free-spirited woman in her circle emerge from seaside foam stark and voluptuously naked,

The rest of the time, though, the movie insists on viewing Florence's condition through a conventional lens of romantic confusion and this feels both forced and false. While the movie features very attractive cinematography and a cast that is pretty clearly invested in conveying something substantial, the movie as it's put together can do nothing but sound a row of overly familiar notes, and do so rather weakly much of the time.

Thus it was that we ended up choosing the less strenuous approach of basing ourselves in the town of Isaba, and doing day trips from there. Isaba sits at the top of the famous Roncal valley, up a scenic road following the river Balagua through several other small villages (including Roncal, the valley's namesake), and only a few kilometers from the French Border at Pas d'Arlas. The town clearly has a thriving tourist trade, with a large parking lot and tons of small pensions called casas rurales offering rooms. Since this was neither ski season (there is a ski resort at the French border up the road), nor yet high hiking season, it was mostly us and the locals.

The government has sold £890m of student loans to a debt management consortium for £160m.

Erudio Student Loans won the bid to buy the remaining 17% of mortgage-style loans taken out by students between 1990 and 1998.

Student leaders secured assurances from ministers the terms and conditions of the loans would not change.

Loans taken out by students paying higher fees of up to £9,000 a year are not covered by the sale.

Public debt
National Union of Students president Toni Pearce said the move was "extremely concerning" as it would see "the public subsidising a private company making a profit from public debt".

"The impact of this sale won't only affect borrowers, but will affect everybody.
