Also, I contacted the local McIntosh service center about he problem. They detemined from the serial number the year the unit was manufactured and said that the were very familiar with that model. Since the unit had never had been out of the cabinet since it was purchased, even for service, that they guaranteed that they could repair it for no more than $200. So the best soution seems to be have UPS pick up the unit and return it and then I can reimburse you.
