「鳥獣人物戯画(Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga)」は12世紀後半の作とされる国宝で、漫画の原点といわれている。
動物による水遊び・弓・相撲といった遊戯や法要・喧嘩などの場面が風刺的に描かれる。
抑揚のある描線を駆使した快活でユーモアあふれる筆致。

うさぎや狐は分かるが、カエルを主人公に据えた作者のセンスにに共感を覚える。
