そして今から約1万年前、火山活動が起こって新富士と言われる現在の富士山が出来ました。
このように繰り返し火山活動が起こって出来た富士山ですが、864年にも大噴火が起こりました。この噴火は寄生火山や側火山といわれる、本火口以外からの噴火で
長尾山という富士山山頂の北西からの噴火でした。
これを貞観の噴火といい、この噴火で流れ出た溶岩は河口湖の方まで流れてきたそうです。その様子を見ていた人々は、自分達も溶岩に飲まれてしまうと不安に思い、噴火を鎮めてもらうため河口浅間神社を建てたそうです

And then about 10,000 years ago, the "new" Mt. Fuji--modern-day Mt. Fuji--came about from lots of volcanic activity.
This repetitious volcanic activity created Mt. Fuji but in 864 there was also a major eruption. These eruptions didn't come from the main crater but rather came from "parasite volcanoes," eruptions from Mt. Nagao, which is northwest of Mt. Fuji.
These were eruptions from the Jougan era (859-877) and it's said that the lava that flowed from these eruptions flowed down to Lake Kawaguchi. The people who saw it were worried they too would be swallowed up by lava and are said to have built Asama Shrine to calm the eruptions.
