Wireless identification tags are another potential source of information which would allow robots to identify people and acquire information about them. This idea was tested at an elementary school in which students who had been equipped with ID tags were surprised when the robots greeted them by name. The emphasis on the future function of robots as companions and helpers seems to have a social reason:
