帆前掛け(ほまえかけ)とは、500年前からある日本の伝統的なエプロンです。
紐を腰で結び、足の腿を布で覆います。
素材は厚手の綿で、昔ながらの硫化染めで染色しています。
今ほど日本に大型ショッピングセンターがなかった40～50年前までは、街に様々な商店がありました。
魚屋、野菜屋、酒屋などは必ず自分の店の名前が書かれた帆前掛けを着用していました。
商店にとって帆前掛けは、仕事中に服が汚れるのを防ぐのと同時に、商売の繁盛と活気をお客さんにアピールするアイテムでもあったのです。
Homaekake is a traditional style of Japanese apron,tied at the hips and covered thighs. It has been used over 500 years in Japan.
The material is thick cotton and dyed with traditional sulfur dyes.
Forty or fifty years ago when there were no huge shopping mall in Japan, we could find a variety of small shops in a city anywhere.
Marchants like fish merchants, vegetable merchants, liquor store clerks wore
Homaekake with the name of their shops printed on it.
For them, Homaekake was the uniform to prevent their clothes from getting dirty
and also it served to appeal their prosperous business and vibrant atmosphere.

今の日本ではそのような風習は完全になくなり、古いデザインの帆前掛けはコレクション品となっています
ちょうどビンテージ品のジーンズと同じで古いものほど価値があります
特に古い酒造メーカーの帆前掛けは希少です。もしあなたが、日本酒を飲むのであれば、部屋のインテリアとして飾っても素敵です

Homaekake from old Sake brewers are especially rare. If you enjoy Japanese Sake, it'll be nice to decorete your room with it.
Or since the textile is very thick and hardly gets torn, we reommend that you use it for sharpening edged tool or wear it for Bonsai care.
