本人は無実を訴えていたにもかかわらず、妻とその不倫相手を殺したとされる主人公のAnの獄中生活の様子とその後、無実が判明し、脱獄を実行するという物語につい目がいきがちだが、実はこの物語の書き手として登場している終身刑のレッドがアンディに会ったことによって自由と生きる希望を取り戻した話でもある。私には後者のメッセージの方が強く心を打たれた。そしてそのメッセージが強調されているように私は感じた映画の方が私は好印象をもった。特に映画の方が 脱獄を匂わせるシーンが少なかった事が理由だ。
We tend to look on the story, that how Andy make his own living in prison, accused for killing his wife and her boyfriend despite he was claiming that he was innocent, but in fact, it was also the story of Red, who was sentenced for a lifetime in prison, retrieved his hope and freedom by meeting Andy. I was more impressed by the messages from Red's story and what I liked about this movie is that messages from Red's story was emphasized in the movie. Especially in the movie, there was a little scenes for breaking out of prison.
