In case of external irradiation
The clinical radiologist understands the exposure positions accurately based on the markings, and conducts each treatment. Normally, one session takes 10-20 minutes for the patient to enter and leave the room, and the patient is exposed to radiation for a few minutes.
In most cases, the patient receive 5 treatments a week for a few weeks, even though this depends on the treatment plan.
In case of brachytherapy
Depending on the strength of the radiation source, the patient may receive a treatment from 24 hours to 7-8 days.
In case of external irradiation
For each treatment, a clinical radiologist accurately determines the site of irradiation based on the marking. The treatment generally takes about 10~20 minutes from entering to leaving the operating room, and the actual irradiation time is about a few minutes.
The overall plan differs by the therapeutic plan, but mostly, treatment is applied 5 days per week, and will continue for few weeks.
In case of brachytherapy
Regarding treatment, depending on the intensity of the radiation, there are cases which the treatment is applied for 24 hours to 7~8 weeks,
In case of external irradiation
Every therapy is conducted by the medical radiology technicians, as they grasp the irradiating place properly based on marking. The consuming time for general therapy is approximately 10-20 minutes from entering the treatment room to exiting and actual time of irradiating is just a few minutes.
The total schedule differs according to the treatment plan, and in many cases the patients receive the treatment 5 days a week for a few weeks.
In case of brachytherapy
As the therapy depends on the strength of radiation source, it varies from the span of 24 hours to 7-8 days, to
Depending on kinds of brachytherapy, the patient may go into a special room so that others are not exposed to radiation or a device necessary for treatments may be inserted by remote control. The patient may be restricted from making contacts with children and pregnant women. The patient should consult with the radiation therapy physician and the nurse regarding important points.
As the type of brachytherapy, patient may go into the special room so that the other person is not exposed to the radiation, or the remote control is used to insert the necessary device for treatment. The patient may restrain the physical contact to children or pregnant women. Please be sure of the caution from the radiologists and the nurses.
