Parking + Mobile App Helps You Easily Locate Your Parked Car

If you’re like me and you have a bad sense of direction and poor memory, trying to find your parked car can be stressful. On countless occasions, I’ve spent walking up and down and around a car park trying to find my car. This problem always results in stress and frustration that really doesn’t need to happen. Now thanks to a company called Dvete, they have developed a mobile app solution called ‘Parking +’ that allows a user to easily and quickly relocate their car in time every time. The app was recently released on the Apple App Store.

So how does it work? Let’s say there is a huge music festival and everyone has parked their car on the surrounding streets. In frustration you park your car really far away from the venue and feel that you aren’t familiar with the location. You know right after the concert you have to rush to your mother’s birthday dinner. So to be safe, you turn on the ‘Parking +’ app, pick your car brand model such as Honda, then your mobile will automatically detect your exact location using GPS. You can also add notes and shoot a video or take a picture of the surrounding environment to later jog your memory.

I'm completely sorry for the massive delay in the headphones. I had about 6 packages get "lost in the mail" and only successfully was able to locate one of them. My delay in response is not like me at all because I should have relayed the info to you about what had happened. I was hoping to get some sort of resolution with that and then be able to resend them out to you. Fotopedia China Launches, Promotes Travel Service eLong in App

Last week you may have read news about Fotopedia’s new iOS photo application showcasing thousands of wonderful images of China, as well as its new partnership with Chinese travel service eLong (NASDAQ:LONG). We followed up with the Fotopedia reps to find out a little bit more about how their apps are being received in China, as well as this new eLong deal.

既にFotopediaが、中国のすばらしい画像を数多く紹介する新しいiOS向けのフォトアプリをリリースした件に関する記事を先週読んだ読者もいるとは思うが、トラベルサービスを行っている中国のeLong (NASDAQ:LONG)との新たな提携に関する発表もあった。このアプリの中国での評判と、eLongとの提携に関し、もう少し調査するため、Fotopediaの代表者に接触した。

Fotopedia’s most popular apps in China so far have been the Heritage, Fotopedia Japan, and Fotopedia Paris apps. Fotopedia Heritage won the best travel app of the year for China, and interestingly Fotopedia Japan saw more downloads in China than in Japan!

中国で最も人気のあるFotopediaのアプリは、今のところHeritage版、Fotopedia Japan版とFotopedia Paris版のアプリの様だ。中国では、Fotopedia Heritage版が年間最優秀トラベルアプリに選ばれ、面白いことにFotopedia Japanは日本よりも中国での方がダウンロード数が多かったのだ。

With regards to the eLong partnership, which will see Fotopedia promote eLong’s iPad app from within some of its own applications, representatives could not comment on whether there were any financial aspects to this deal. But it wouldn’t really make sense for Fotopedia to promote eLong’s services for free, so my guess is that such a deal is part of their monetization strategy. It’s worth noting that Fotopedia also has a similar partnership with Expedia as well.

Fotopediaが、いくつかのアプリを使ってeLongのiPad用アプリを後押しするeLongとの提携に関し、金銭上の取り決めがあったかどうかは、コメントはしなかった。しかし、Fotopedia がeLongのサービスの後押しを無償で行うなんて、理解し難いので、私はこの提携がFotopediaの収益化戦略の一部ではないかと見ている。Fotopediaが、Expediaとも同じ様な提携を結んでいることは、注目に値する。

Travel Site Rajakamar Unveils New BlackBerry App

One of the big player in online travel segment, Rajakamar, released new BlackBerry app to support the business. Aiming at millions of currently popular BlackBerry users in Indonesia, the app is intended to help customers making transaction right from the fingertips anytime and anywhere. The key here is an intuitive app and integrated payment system.

トラベルサイトのRajakamarは、BlackBerry用の新しいアプリを発表

オンライトラベル業界大手のRajakamarは、業界支援用の新しいアプリを発表した。このアプリは、インドネシアにいる多くのBlackBerryユーザー向けに、いつでもどこでも指先で簡単に取引ができる様にしたものだ。直感的なアプリに支払いシステムが統合されているところが、特徴だ。

According to CEO of Rajakamar, Scott Blume, in the press release stated, “This initiative will allow the estimated three million Blackberry users in Indonesia to have the convenience to book domestic hotels at unbeatable prices, at short notice, without the need to access a computer. We are committed to ensuring our customers have every opportunity to find the best deals available, taking the stress out of finding a hotel when they should be enjoying the prospectof a well-earned holiday.”

A little obstacle may relate with details of each room. For any kind of room or suite that available to be booked, this mobile app doesn’t provide any detail of room specification or what’s included into the purchasing. It’s definitely going to be very hard to choose what kind of room that’s suitable for our need if there’s too little information provided here.

Rajakamar mobile app is yet to available yet for other smartphone platforms. The move is understandable since BlackBerry is still the most popular smartphone in big cities. With the amazing growth of Android users for the past year, Rajakamar should consider to support this platform as well.

部屋の詳細を説明する部分に少し問題がある。このモバイルアプリで予約可能な如何なる部屋やスウィートルームに関し、その仕様や価格に何が含まれているか、何の情報も提供されてないのだ。そこの情報が不十分では、どの部屋が自分の要求に合っているのかを判断するのは非常に困難だ。

Rajakamarのモバイルアプリは、まだ他のスマートフォンのプラットフォーム用には準備されていない。大都市では、依然BlackBerryがスマートフォンでは一番人気のため、この戦略も納得できる。近年、目ざましい勢いでAndroidユーザーが増えているので、そろそろRajakamarも、こちらのプラットフォーム用の開発を検討しても良いのでは。

Rajakamar is supported by large traditional travel agencies like Panorama, Dwidaya and Smailing Tours. It focuses on hotel reservation and maybe has the largest database in many cities in Indonesia.Previously, Rajakamar overhauled the site and made partnership with travel site giant TripAdvisor to provide comments for each venue.

Local Developers Optimistic of Blackberry’s Future

Research In Motion (RIM) is in crisis. Its global sales figures is decreasing and the company experiences a huge loss. Its newest operating system, the BlackBerry 10 which mentioned to be able to save RIM, is postponed until next year. However, RIM is still trying hard to embrace developers, one of the ways is holding BlackBerry 10 Jam, including in Jakarta, last Tuesday.

Research In Motion (以下、RIM)は、危機的な状況にある。世界での売上高は減っており、かなりの損失が出ている。最新OSのBlackBerry 10はRIMの救世主になると思われていたが、発表は来年まで延期になった。しかし、RIMは何とか開発者を取り込もうと必死で、その一手段として、先週の火曜日に開催されたジャカルタでの集いを含め、各地でBlackBerry 10 Jamを開催している。

The result, developers’ enthusiasm is seen in the event. Around 350 developers from many places are present in the event which introduce the BlackBerry 10 operating system. In addition to show how to build an app for BlackBerry 10, RIM also gives out BlackBerry Dev Alpha to help developers in building apps for BlackBerry 10.

イベントを訪れた開発者の関心は高かい結果となっている。様々なところから約350人の開発者が、BlackBerry 10のOSを紹介するイベントに参加していた。さらに、RIMは、BlackBerry 10用のアプリ開発の仕方がわかる様にBlackBerry Dev Alphaを提供し、開発者がBlackBerry 10用のアプリ開発に役立てられる様にしたのだ。

I had the chance to contact three developers who participated in BlackBerry 10 Jam. The three of them give a good impression about BlackBerry 10, both from the presentation they see and after trying BlackBerry 10 in the BlackBerry Dev Alpha device they received. They are especially impressed with BB 10’s smooth and lag-free multitasking system. The look of BB 10 is also far better than the previous operating system.

BlackBerry 10 Jamに参加した3人の開発者にコンタクトする機会があったが、プレゼン内容や、提供されたBlackBerry Dev Alpha のデバイスを使ってのBlackBerry 10の印象は、3人とも良いものだった。特に、BlackBerry 10のスムースで処理速度の速いマルチタスクシステムには感心していた。また、以前のOSよりBlackBerry 10の方が、見た目はかなり良い様だ。

In addition, Prasetyo Andy Wicaksono, CEO of Layang-Layang Mobile, says that the migration to BlackBerry 10 opens a new opportunity of BlackBerry 10 apps developing. Developers have a lot of options to build an app using WebWorks, Adobe Air, Android runtime or developing a native app with Cascade or C/C++. This openness can attract many developers who already learned to use those tools to build apps for BlackBerry 10.

さらに、Layang-Layang MobileのCEOのPrasetyo Andy Wicaksonoによると、BlackBerry 10への移行によって、BlackBerry 10用アプリを開発する機会が新たに生まれるという。また開発者がアプリ開発を行う際、WebWorks、Adobe Air、Android runtimeを使用したり、CascadeやC/C++を使ってネイティブアプリを開発するという、様々な選択肢があるそうだ。BlackBerry 10用のアプリ開発に、使い慣れたツールを使用できるというこの自由度が、多くの開発者にとっては魅力の様だ。

Delay Becomes Opportunity

The delay on BlackBerry 10 launching is actually a blessing for developers. This delay means more time for developers to learn more on how to develop apps for BlackBerry 10. Ibnu Maksum, the developer of NuxRadio for BlackBerry, says that this delay is a chance for him to learn app developing for BlackBerry 10 using Cascade technology.

延期がきっかけとなる

BlackBerry 10の発表延期は、実は、開発者にとっては有難いことなのだ。延期されたことで、開発者はBlackBerry 10.用アプリの開発により時間をかける事ができるのだ。BlackBerry 用にNuxRadioを開発したIbnu Maksumは、開発者にとってこの延期は、Cascade技術を使ったBlackBerry 10用のアプリ開発を習得するチャンスになると語った。

While learning to build app for BlackBerry 10, Fakhrur Rida, freelance developer for BlackBerry app and usually known as Edo, will still develop apps for existing BlackBerry operating system. He thinks that the demand for apps both from company and retail, is so high. This seems to be what makes the developers to remain focusing in developing apps for BlackBerry.

BlackBerry 用アプリの開発に携わり、Edo として知られているフリーランスの開発者のFakhrur Ridaは、BlackBerry 10のアプリ開発をしながら、既存のBlackBerry OS用のアプリ開発も行うという。企業や小売の需要はかなりあると彼は見込んでいる。開発者がBlackBerry用のアプリ開発に依然として着目している理由はここにありそうだ。

The developers I contacted also admit that they already prepare a plan for apps for BlackBerry 10. At least, they will port the apps they have made to be able to run on BlackBerry 10.

They are also confident that BlackBerry 10 will be able to lift RIM from its current condition. RIM’s superiority in its safe network is able to support productivity added with the good BlackBerry 10 operating system are the factors that support said confidence. However, time is important because if it miss again, RIM will lose the momentum and may meet failure.

私がコンタクトをとった開発者も、既にBlackBerry 10用のアプリのプランの用意があると言っている。彼らは、作成したアプリをBlackBerry 10で実行できる様、最低でも移植はするそうだ。

また、彼らはBlackBerry 10によって、RIMは現状から回復するとも信じている。RIMのネットワークサービスは、安全性に優れ業績への貢献が期待されており、そこに評判の良いBlackBerry 10のOSが加わることが、前述の業績回復に対する自信の裏付けになっている様だ。しかし、そこには時間との闘いが待っている。もしまた延期する事になれば、RIMは勢いを失い業績回復に失敗するだろう。
