Zalora Launches iOS App in Southeast Asia Today, Already Top App in 5 Countries

For shopaholics and fans of Zalora, here’s a piece of news that will probably further strain your pockets. Zalora today officially launched its iOS app, and now you can shop for clothes or shoes even while on-the-go.

There are currently over 500 brands and 15,000 products listed on the new fashion e-store app. Users can receive push notifications on the new items and flash sales that Zalora has, and choose from multiple payment methods such as credit cards, PayPal, and cash-on-delivery. The user interface looks pretty and is optimized for the iPhone 5 too.

Shimada said that Rakuten understands Indonesia has big potential to become one of the largest e-commerce market in Indonesia. Since the establishment of local office two years ago, RBO has receives enormous responses, both from merchants and consumers.

Yet, Shimada admits that to have better growth, RBO needs have deeper focus and investment. Not only about accelerating the value of B2B2C model and owned e-commerce platform, it’s more about helping e-commerce landscape evolution in this country.

No further comment on expansion plan for the near future and it’s still unclear whether Rakuten will find new partner for its business in Indonesia. While we believe that Rakuten has injected Japanese value into its core business in many countries, local wisdom of every country should gained more attention to understand about local market. Last year, Rakuten closed down its subsidiary in China, a joint venture with Baidu — Chinese’s largest search engine company.

近い将来における楽天の拡大路線についてこれ以上コメントは得られず、楽天がインドネシアでのビジネスで新しいパートナーを見つけられるかどうかは以前として不透明な状態だ。楽天は多くの国でコアビジネスを行う際に日本の価値観を注入してきた。しかし、ビジネスを展開する国のマーケットを理解するためには、その国独特の慣習にもっと注意を向けるべきだろう。昨年、楽天は中国最大手の検索サービス会社であるBaiduとの合弁事業として設立した中国の子会社を閉鎖している。

This single sentence can become pretty scary for those of us who don’t have a time machine available. However, Paul Graham words provides at least five resounding advises for founders:

1- Build your start up around real-life problems that need to be solved. The only way to do so is to actually DO things and feel the pain doing them. Stop think, live your life and feel the pain.

2- Question inefficient patterns. They come in the form of recurrent manual processes; useless intermediaries or boring repetitive tasks. Identify those goals that could be reached faster and better with new tools, technology or software. Go create them.

この一文だけを見るとタイムマシンを持たない私たちは尻ごみしそうになりますが、Paul Grahamの言葉は少なくとも5つの実践できそうなアドバイスを起業家に与えてくれます。

1- 実生活に即した問題を解決するスタートアップを作りなさい。それを実現するための唯一の方法は実際に行動し、その中で痛みを感じることです。考えることを止め、自分の生活を送り、痛みを感じなさい。

2- 非効率なパターンに疑問を持ちなさい。それらは度々生じる手作業、つまり無駄な中間工程や退屈な反復作業として現れます。新しいツールや技術、ソフトウェアを使えば、より早く、より上手く実現できることをゴールとして設定しなさい。それを作るのです。

3- Be visionary. Now that you know the current problems you want to tackle, find a solution that is realistic, but futuristic. This part is tricky as it involves the time machine. You probably should not think about a technological solution but more about behavioral ones. Devise a way to make like simpler. The less intrusive the technology is, the better your solution.

3- 未来を見通しなさい。取り組むべき問題が定まったら、実現可能であると同時に未来に登場しそうな解決策を見つけ出すのです。この作業にはタイムマシンが必要になるので難しいところです。恐らく、技術よりも行動面からソリューションを考えていった方が良いでしょう。問題をシンプルに解決する方法をひねり出しなさい。技術が後ろに隠れていればいるほど、あなたの解決策は良いものだと言えるのです。

4- Keep your feet firmly on the ground. Whatever futuristic may the world be in 100 years, you need your start-up to gain traction over the next 3 to 5 years. Habits die hard and most people don’t like changes. Do not try to change the world but humbly resolve one specific problem and figure out an implementation that makes sense (makes things easier, not worse).

5- Iteration is key to success. Even if some people are better at envisioning the future than other, no one has a crystal bowl. Getting to the point where user feel the gain from your product takes time. Build, Release and improve, indefinitely.

4- 地に足をつけなさい。100年後の世界がどんなに今と変わろうと、あなたは自分のスタートアップを今から3～5年の間で軌道にのせる必要があるのです。習慣は変えがたく、多くの人は変化を望みません。世界を変えようなんて思わずに、謙虚に目の前にある問題の解決策を考え、理にかなった（つまり、物事を悪化させるのではなく、簡単にする）実行案を見つけ出すのです。

5- 反復こそ成功のカギです。他人より未来を思い描くのが得意な人がいたとしても、未来が見える水晶玉を持っている人などいないのです。ユーザーが良いと思う製品を作り上げるには時間がかかるものです。作る、リリースする、改善する、それをずっと繰り返すのです。

That’s it. This is how I decided to build a tablet application that could be displayed at any counter for user registration and check-in. I believe that the gains from a paperless check-in process are large enough for behavior to change.

As Paul Graham put it, Datafield is one of the things I see in my future as interesting. And I decided to make it happen.

Last month, Renren also had a go at making a Snapchat-like app where the messages and images vanish after 10 seconds.

Renren’s main social network remains China’s seventh largest social network with about 170 million registered users.

U.S. Cellular, the Chicago-based carrier serving around 5.8 million customers in 126 markets, will likely start offering the iPhone later this year, possibly in addition to other iOS devices. The carrier announced today in its first quarter results that it will soon begin carrying Apple products, but didn't provide any further information regarding when or what specific products it might launch:

“We have a number of strategies in progress to increase loyalty and attract more customers, including our announcement today that we will begin offering Apple products later this year.

You might remember a couple years back U.S. Cellular claimed it said no to the iPhone 4S with CEO Mary Dillon at the time saying Apple's “terms were unacceptable from a risk and profitability standpoint.” Later, CEO of the cellular provider's parent company TDS hinted that the carrier would wait until Apple unveiled an LTE capable device, which was of course before the unveiling of Apple's LTE iPhone 5.

After it decided not to carry the iPhone 4S, it soon after launched its Wonderphone ad campaign that were seen by many as mocking the iPhone.
