Due to the facility expansion during the Pacific War, production capacity in heavy industry such as iron, steel, alminum, and machine tools was on the increase from the wartime to the postwar days. The production capacity on oil refining and copper smelting was also maintained. Although there was few damage on infrastructure such as hydroelectric power and railways by the war, textile industry experienced a massive damage. These factors drove Japan into a heavy industry nation after the war. In 1945, when Japan experienced the unstable weather, there was a far less harvest due to the loss of agricultural labor force and fertilizer. The production volume of coals dropped to 10 % of the one before the war, losing forced labor force by foreigners.
