Tough competition in the SNS market for couples

VCNC is facing tough competition in their quest to go global with Between. Apps such as Y Combinator-backed Couple, as well as Avocado, SimplyUs and LoveByte, are also pursuing the couples market.

It looks like Between from Korea, where it’s even normal to see couples dressed in matching shirts, shoes, hairstyles, etc., have used its unique knowledge of what kind of features couples are seeking to take a firm grip of the Asian couples market.

Going Global

VCNC recently accompanied beSUCCESS to Singapore as one of ten Korean startups that won the chance through the ‘K-APP Global Hub Program’ to go to Singapore for an intensive week of seminars, business matching and networking. VCNC applied for the program in Singapore to identify partners who could help them with user acquisition outside Korea and Japan (where they currently dominate). Additionally, having gained extensive market penetration in two markets their next major concern is monetization and to refine their global market strategy.

Corporate accounts

Documents obtained by The Next Web earlier this year showed that Line charges companies and celebrities to maintain official profiles on the messaging network. Not only do they have to pay a periodical maintenance fee, they have to also pay for the privilege of broadcasting messages to their followers/fans.

This practice of charging corporates and celebrities is not limited to just messaging apps as Twitter also has corporate deals in place to assist companies with the promotion and maintenance of their accounts if they wish to do so.

Premium and additional features

Perhaps the easiest methods to think of when deploying a service is providing premium services at a cost in addition to the standard services made available for free. Monetizing subscribers or consumers in this way generally won’t deliver a meaningful revenue stream unless the service has attracted a sizable following.

Skype charges for calls made to regular phone numbers and for video conferences involving more than two participants. Its premium subscription offers though, are also provided by other companies at no cost, so it’s a matter of whether people know about and willing to use alternatives. Skype claims to have hosted 33% of voice calls made around the world.

In addition to a few apps currently available in the smatwartch, such as Weibo and WeChat, inWatch also launched an independent app store to attract developers.

Yingqu Technology released plans for future products, including a smart bracelet inWatch BT and entry-level inWatch customized for senior citizens.

Chinese technology companies have released a couple of homegrown smartwatches. Shanda rolled out Geak Watch at 1999 yuan and Tomoon Technology, another entrepreneurial company, is posed to release T-Watch.

Chinese Tech Startup Yingqu Unveiled Smartwatch inWatch

Yingqu Technology rolled out a smartwatch inWatch One with a price tag of 1,788 yuan ($292). The gadget is opened for preorder from Aug 8.

The Android 4.2-powered inWatch One is made of metal materials, with a 1.54-inch touch screen, dual-core processor, 2MP camera and battery capacity of 48 hours. The users can make phone calls, send texts or take photos with the gadget.

Bitcoin exchanges

Bitcoin exchanges in China support, apart from online banking services, Alipay, an escrow payments service that Chinese trust. Some also set up stores on Taobao, also powered by Alipay, to sell Bitcoins directly.

From charts on BTCChina you can see Bitcoins are traded at lower prices then on MtGox, currently the largest Bitcoin exchange world wide.

Those platforms takes a 0.3% – 0.5% transaction-based fee and extra fees for depositing CNY or cashing out BTCs into CNY.

Volumes traded on those platforms every day isn’t big. There’s only a dozen trades every day on 42BTC, an exchange that went live in March this year.

Rail Connector is a connector piece with a 180mm spread for the 24" (60.9cm) track pieces of SkateTrack.
Outrigger Leg is a lightweight attachment for your SkateTrack made of annodized aircraft-grade aluminum. The outrigger leg screws on to the bottom of SkateTrack and folds out in two simple moves to provide a stable lift for the SkateTrack and enable usage in almost any enviroment imaginable. And, the outrigger leg folds right back up and stows away in your SkateTrack bag for ultimate portability!
