そのまま英訳するのは難しいと思われるので、語順や使う単語を大きく変えて意訳してしまって構いません。

良くも悪くも世界に多大な影響を与えている『中国』。
中国と何かしらの関わりを持つと、同じアジアの国、漢字を使っている国同士にも関わらず、あまりにも違う考え方に驚かされ、日本人が何となく持っている “常識” とは何かと考えさせられます。
本発表では、中国や日本の良し悪しを論ずるのではなく、研究活動やキャリアのステップアップにつながるような新しい着想を生み出す一助を担えればと思います。

China has a significant impact on the world in both a good and bad way.
When we have some relationship with China, we recognize that Japan and China have a different way of thinking even though both countries are located in Asia and we both use Chinese character in writing, which always makes us wonder what is "common sense" we have.
I am going to present a new idea which might generate something for a study or carreer up, not discussing good or bad aspects of China or Japan.
