Count the cost
When you champion your employees, you will lose some to other areas of the company in different or more responsible positions. This is where championing will cost you. You will be training more new people to take the places of the ones who have moved on. Sure, it is extra work, but the success of those who work for you can only make you more successful.

Be realistic
You cannot halfheartedly champion your employees. Championing people you don't believe in or ones who aren't qualified for higher level positions can only backfire on you. Your peers in the company will begin to doubt your judgment.

自分の社員を支持するという事は、会社の別の部署の違った或いはもっと責任のある職にある人材を失うという事だ。これが支持の犠牲である。昇進した人の引継ぎをする新人を育成することになるだろう。もちろん、それは余分な仕事であるが、自分の下で働く社員が成功するという事は、自分の更なる成功に繋がるという事なのだ。

現実的になる事
いい加減に自分の社員を支持する事は出来ない。信頼していない社員や上の職に就く資格のない社員を支持する事は、自分にあだが返って来るだけである。社内の同僚は自分の判断を疑い始めるだろう。
