Honesty is even more vital in offering evaluations or constructive criticism. If you never tell an individual about the things that are reducing effectiveness on the job, you allow the behaviors to grow and become reinforced. Often a supervisor is uncomfortable discussing areas of weakness or confronting areas of less-than-acceptable results. That uneasy feeling is not necessarily bad. It can be an indicator that the boss needs to pay special attention to the subject and deal with it honestly and positively.
Once again, avoid general or categorical statements: "You never do this right," or "Your work is really not very good."

相手を評価したり、建設的な批評を下す場合は誠実さがより一層不可欠なものとなる。仕事の効率を悪くするような問題点について、当の本人に告げないとしたら、あなたはそのような行動が増長しのさばるのを認めることになってしまう。たいていの場合上司は、相手の弱点や芳しくない成績といった問題となる分野について話し合うのは気が進まないものだ。この類の不安感は、必ずしも悪いものではない。上司がその問題に注意をはらい、誠実かつ前向きに対応する必要があるということを教えてくれる指針となりうる。
いま一度、「きちんとできたためしがない」とか「君の仕事は本当にあんまりよくないな」、などのように全体的もしくは断定的な発言は避けること。
