京都国立博物館は1897年に、京都を中心とした寺社にまつわる文化財を保護する目的で、帝国博物館として開設しました。

明治時代に建てられた本館は、西洋建築物で、京都、日本にいることを思わず忘れてしまいそうな建物です。
館内に入ると、縄文時代から日本で初めて作られた陶器など、日本のルーツが勉強できます。
京都の他の寺社で見ることが出来る時代のものより、一昔二昔前のものも多いが、歴史好きには貴重な資料が多い。

The main building built in Meiji era is a Western architecture, which will make us forget that it is in Kyoto, Japan.

Among the exhibitions, there are potteries made in Japan for the first time in the Jomon period, which will tell you about the roots of Japan.

Most of them are older than those in other temples and shrines in Kyoto, which are precious for history fans.
