Frame range - should be selected as "manual" with correct values - - not "active time segment"
Outputs - output should be selected in VRay Frame Buffer settings - main 3DMax output (from "Common" tab) should be setup to JPGs. If you need PNG, TIF, TGA or any other format - please use VRay Frame Buffer. If render elements outputs are used, they must be setup to desire format too. All output paths (common tab, VRay Frame Buffer, Render elements) should be redirected to scene directory
