The Mw = 7.8 November 2007 Tocopilla earthquake ruptured a subduction interface between the cities of Tocopilla and Antofagasta in North Chile. So far, 445 aftershocks have been relocated by a local seismic network. The aftershock zone depicts the plate interface dipping 20° east, with a width of about 40 km wide and broadening towards the south. Some shallow events located offshore of the Mejillones peninsula appear to have occurred above the slab interface, possibly suggestive of shallow crustal faulting.
The coseismic deformation field observed by satellite interferometry data is used to constrain the distribution of slip associated with the earthquake.

モーメントマグニチュード=7.8の2007年11月のトコピージャ地震では、チリ北部のトコピージャ市とアントファガスタ市の間で沈み込み接触面が破断した。これまで、445回の余震が地元の地震観測網で震源再決定（=relocate）された。余震域の図からは、プレートの境界面が、約40kmの幅で、その幅を南方向に広げながら、東に20度沈み込んだことを示している。メヒジョーネス半島沖を震源とする浅い地震（=event/事象）がいくつか、スラブ境界面の上で起きたものと見られており、浅い地殻断層運動を示している可能性がある。
地震に関連するすべり（=slip）の分布を限定するのには、サテライト・インターフェロメトリ（=satellite interferometry /訳注：SSIを指すのかも知れませんが、ここでは原文のままとしておきます)のデータで観測された地震時変形場が用いられる。
