エンジンの冷却水の熱を使います。このため暖機時、エンジンの冷却水の温度が低いと温風が出ない。
水温が60℃を超えるまで、ブロワファンを停止する。
60℃を超えると、ファンを駆動し温風が出るようになる。

車室内（内気）あるいは車室外（外気）から空気を導入し、ブロワファンで空調風を送風する。
エバポレータという熱交換器内には，冷たいフロン冷媒（約3℃）が流れており、ここで空調風を冷却・除湿する。
