除夜の鐘
仏教寺院で、12月31日の夜に行われる行事。お寺に存在する大きな鐘を108回突くのが一般的。 108回という回数にポイントがあり、人の心に存在する「ボンノウ」の種類の数が基本と言われている。(ボンノウとは身心を乱し悩ませる心の働き(汚れ)を総称して言う。)

日本ではこのお寺の音を聞きながら、寺院にある本堂にお祈りをし、一年の総仕上げを行う。またお寺によっては、実際に除夜の鐘をたたかせてくれることもある。

The bell of new year's eve
At the buddhist temple, there is a ceremony that is held on 31 December at night. It is a normal to strike the big bell at the temple for 108 times. There is a reason behind striking 108 times, which is based on the types of "Bonnou" laying inside of the human's heart. (Bonnou is the categorical name for the things that works by causing trouble and disrupts and contaminates your body and heart.)

In Japan, while listening to the sound in the temple, and praying in the main hall of the temple, it will complete for the whole years worth of it. And according to each temple, one could even strike the bell on new year's eve.
