I have wrapped the item with the plastic bag that you originally used at the time of shipment. I have then fixed with a tape to protect lest the item should not be exposed. Was the item exposed without wrapped in the plastic bag when you received it? If so, I would imagine it was broken during the customs inspection. I even wrapped it with the air cusion for protection, too.
If the item is broken, it must be an accident on passage. And it of course should be settled with the insurance. You sould go to the local post office and claim for the insurance.
