Long-lost, 1958 recording of Tolkien explaining Lord of the Rings has been unearthed
It’s taken more than 50 years, but a long-lost recording of J.R.R. Tolkien actually breaking down the true meaning of The Lord of the Rings has been recovered. Want to hear a piece of it?
The Huffington Post reports the mythical recording was made at the March 28, 1958, “Hobbit Dinner” in Rotterdam, at a party hosted by Tolkien's Dutch publisher and a bookseller. Approximately 200 fans packed the hall and listened to Tolkien crack wise and talk as candidly as ever about the trilogy that would eventually come to define his career and inspire fantasy writers for years to come.

ハフィントンポスト紙によると、この神話的録音は、1958年3月28日、トールキンのオランダの出版社と書店が主催したロッテルダムの「ホビットディナー」パーティーで取られたものである。会場には約200人のファンが詰めかけ、最終的にトールキンのキャリアを決定し、以後長年にわたってこのファンタジー作家にインスピレーションを与え続けてきた三部作について、トールキン本人が冗談を交えながら率直に語っている。
