At certain points, the relationship between Arbor and Swifty may remind you of John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men," only here the little one is George, the unpredictable, emotionally limited outcast, and the big one is Lenny, his guardian and minder—and they're both just boys who should be thinking about the future, not slaving in the present. What happens to them should not have been a foregone conclusion. More than one someone is to blame.
