Como parte de ese trato, le cambiaron el nombre al edificio recién abierto Burj Dubai, el cual es el edificio mas alto del mundo y el símbolo y también parecía un símbolo de exceso innecesario, a Burj Dubai en honor del soberano de Abu Dubai. Pero esta aguja en el desierto ya no se esfuerza para conseguir inquilinos. Al igual que los otros aparentes elefantes blancos de Dubai le ha ido bien.
El rascacielos es un hermoso centro para el centro de Dubai, el cual es un complejo residencial y de negocios y en donde antes solo había un montón de polvo ahora esta lleno de grúas y brillantes rascacielos. La atracción del Burj Khalifa ayudo en el año pasado a un incremento de 65 millones de compradores en el inmenso Centro Comercial de Dubai vecino, en donde compraron mercancías, aun cuando no estaban en oferta.
