和敬清寂(わけいせいじゃく)とは、茶道の心得を示す標語で、意味は、主人と賓客がお互いの心を和らげて謹み敬い、茶室の備品や茶会の雰囲気を清浄にすることという意である。特に千家ではこの標語を「和」、「敬」、「清」、「寂」を表す「四規」として重要視している。

和気あいあい、仲むつまじいということを超えて肝胆相い照らす調和、大和のこころ。殊に仏教では和合を第一とされ、これを乱すものは教団より追放されたほどである。
“和敬清寂” in Japanese is read as WAKEISEIJYAKU and it is the motto for the savvy of Japanese tea ceremony. The words contain the meaning of “a host and a visitor shall have the discreet and respect with soften heart each other and make the appointments of a tea-ceremony room and tea ceremony being purity atmosphere. Particularly at Senke School, these words of motto are highly emphasized as “Fundamental Four Rules” representing “Harmony”, “Respect” “Purity” and “Tranquility”.
●Harmony (和 or WA)
The soul of Japanese representing the harmony of “let each other see to the liver and gallbladder” beyond the cozy and closeness. Especially in the instruction of Buddhism, the harmonization is the first concern and it was happened that a member who messed up this instruction was expelled from a religious organization.
