If you can send me the imei number on the box I will have my friend unlock the phone. He will get a code based on the number that can be used to unlock the phone. He said it should not be a problem. I also called the apple and was told the phone I purchased was an unlocked phone. I'm not sure how this could have happened but there is a fix for the problem. Send me the number and ill get you a factory unlock code for the phone.
