何と多くの良き日が過ぎてゆくことか！一本の燭蝋も燈されず、一節の詩（うた）も歌われることなく、崇拝にふさわしい夜が何と多く過ぎてゆくことか!
何と多くの彫刻家たちが、逞しい肩も髪も石の粉で真っ白になりながら一日中あなたの彫像を造り、夕暮れにはそれを川に運んで投げ捨てていることか。
女神はまだ神殿にいる、しかしこの終わりなき無知の中で、供物を捧げる者も、糧を授かる者もいない。
