盗んだ人は、初詣に（荷物が少なかったのでおそらく日帰りで）出かけた帰り道で、もなちゃんに遇った。今、女性は後悔しているけれど、送り届けるには彼氏の協力（車や日程調整）が必要なので迷っている。

付近にビラを配るとともに、家の門の前の目につく所に、Mを戻してくれるようお願いする張り紙のようなものを設置すると、何かのきっかけになるかもしれません。

Here's what I could feel not from the animal, but from my intuition in the middle of the communication:
The thief went out for the first shrine visit of New Year (it was most likely a daily trip as she only had little luggage) and on her way back she met Mona-chan. Now she's regretting it but she's hesitating because she needs her boyfriend's cooperation to return the dog home (for the car and the schedule adjustment).

As a start, you could put some posters asking to 'please return M' in the neighbourhood villas, as well as in front of the house gate, in an easily noticeable position. This could bring to something.
