Kogatana (small knife) is different from the normal knives and it used by moving the blade from front to outside.
Using as example the same operation to sharpen a pencil, right-handed knife is equipped with the right blade
It used mainly for such work like cutting wood and bamboo carvings, and it should be used for such work of Japanese cooking vegetables but it has also become expensive goods as collection in Japan
Japanese traditional blacksmith produces a knife putting in their technology and aesthetics, so for the item is given a poetic title like as painting, and given a his sign.
Kogatana has limited amount of production, like as Nihontou (Japanese sword), and is very rare.
